Week 3 Term 4

Hi everybody,

My apologies for being behind with the blog. Hopefully this post will bring you up to date.

First, we have completed the spreadsheet module. The final assessment can be found on these four pages - Page 1 (Checklist), Page 2, Page 3, Page 4.

This means that we have completed three modules of the five needed for Unit 1. These are Communication, OH&S and Spreadsheets.

This leaves two more to complete - Work effectively with others and Use Business Technology.

We are about halfway through the module on work effectively with others. this is mainly concerned about how you work as part of a team to get a task completed. We started with a look at how people can be a mix of right brain and left brain. See the lists of these characteristics compared side by side at this website.

Notice that you can have a big diference from one test to another. Most people are a mix of the right and left brain characteristics. But if you have someone who is strongly one way or the other, then this can affect the type of work that they will be happy doing.

The following pages are from Certificate II in Business by Allan Barnes (Second Edition - 2008) which you can get from the Academic and General Bookstores in Melbourne for about $50. it is well worth the money spent. Here are the pages - Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4, Page 5, Page 6 and Page 7.

We have looked at these in terms of choosing two or three of your classmates to work with to set up a part time business of one day a week. You agree on a product to make/sell or a service that you can provide (mowing lawns, tree lopping, etc.).

If you have not been able to make it to class, then you can try this on your own. Do the questions 1-5 for the assigned work this week to be handed up. I will need both a hard copy done in word and for you to email it to me as well. Please do not expect me to print out out your hard copy.

Now part of setting up your own business will be that you need some computer skills in graphics to draw up a basic logo (like the McDonald's golden arches).
